How to Create a Facebook Business Page

Many entrepreneurs have made a habit of using their personal social media accounts to promote their businesses.

While an entrepreneur and his business are essentially one in the same, it’s a best practice to have separate personal and business social media accounts.

This is especially true for Facebook, as having a separate Facebook business pageoffers a number of benefits, such as having access to Facebook Insights tools, boosting SEO, and increasing the overall awareness of your brand.

So now that we’ve got it settled that your business needs a Facebook business page, how do you go about creating one?

Since not every Facebook business page is created equally, we wanted to share some pointers for creating a phenomenal Facebook business page that will help your brand to really stand out:

Step 1: Select a classification for your business.

Currently, there are 6 different classifications that you can choose from:

  1. Local business or place
  2. Company, organization, or institution
  3. Brand or product
  4. Artist, band, or public figure
  5. Entertainment
  6. Cause or community

By selecting a classification for your business, Facebook will give you more relevant fields to fill out for your business page.

You will then be prompted to give your Facebook business page a name, and this is something that you should do very carefully as Facebook only allows you to make one name and URL change.

Step 2: Complete the basic information that will appear on your Facebook business page.

Facebook will guide you through this process, and you’ll want to make sure to complete all of the fundamental aspects of your business page.

Complete the “about” section

Be sure to give some attention to the “About” section as these 2 to 3 sentences will serve as the description of your company on the main page.

Be sure to naturally incorporate relevant keywords and provide a clear and detailed description of what your business does.

A link to your website should be included here as well.

Upload a profile picture

Next, you’ll want to upload a profile picture for your business page.

Unless your business is a personal brand, use your logo as your profile picture.

The recommended image size for a Facebook profile picture is 180 x180 pixels.

Choose a cover photo

Your Facebook cover photo has a lot of potential to help you to further communicate what your brand is all about.

Use this visual space to show off your logo, show what you do, promote an upcoming event, or even put your customers on center stage.

The optimal Facebook cover photo dimensions are 851 x 315 pixels.

Step 3: Make yourself familiar with the admin panel.

Take a moment to click on the “settings” button at the top of your page.

A vertical navigation bar will then populate on the left-hand side of your page.

There are three key settings that you’ll want to get a good grasp on:

  1. Page Info: This is where you can add more details about your business’s Facebook page. You’ll want to be sure to complete your Facebook business page in its entirety for the best results.
  2. Notifications: This will allow you to establish how often you want to receive Page alerts.
  3. Page Roles: Will there be more than one person within your company that will have access to your Facebook page? If so, you’ll want to define these roles here provide those specified people with appropriate access levels.

Step 4: Fill your page up with content.

You’ll want to be sure to include a good variety of content on your Facebook business page, and examples of such content could include a plain text status update, an eye-catching image with a caption, a link with a caption, a video, an event, or a virtual check-in.

Once you begin filling up your page with content, you can invite users to “like” your page.

Step 5: Track your success.
